Thomas Friedman
Bestselling author of The World is Flat and columnist for The New York Times, Tom Friedman is renowned for his direct reporting and sophisticated analysis of complex issues facing the world. As winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, he has covered monumental stories from around the globe for The New York Times since 1981.
Ranked #2 on The Wall Street Journal’s list of “influential business thinkers,” named to the 2011 Thinkers50 and the 2013 list of Foreign Policy‘s Top Global Thinkers, and considered one of “America’s Best Leaders” by US News & World Report, Friedman is a frequent guest on programs such as Meet The Press, Morning Joe, and Charlie Rose.
Norman Augustine
Mr. Augustine chaired the 1990 Advisory Committee on the Future of the U.S. Space Program and the 2005 National Academies commission that produced the landmark report, Rising Above the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing America for a Brighter Economic Future.
Mr. Augustine has been presented the National Medal of Technology by the President of the United States and received the Joint Chiefs of Staff Distinguished Public Service Award. He has five times received the Department of Defense’s highest civilian decoration, the Distinguished Service Medal. He is co-author of The Defense Revolution and Shakespeare In Charge and author of Augustine’s Laws and Augustine’s Travels. He holds 23 honorary degrees and was selected by Who’s Who in America and the Library of Congress as one of “Fifty Great Americans” on the occasion of Who’s Who’s fiftieth anniversary. He has traveled in over 100 countries and stood on both the North and South Poles of the earth.
Lt. Governor Garcia
Lt. Gov. Joseph Garcia brings a passion for education and public service to the state Capitol. Before he was elected Lieutenant Governor, Joe was president of Colorado State University – Pueblo. During his four-year tenure at the University, Joe helped the university overcome financial difficulties, stagnant enrollment and a mediocre reputation through aggressive marketing and non-traditional solutions.
While president of CSU-Pueblo, Joe also served as co-chair of the Governor’s P-20 Education Task Force, helping guide the development of a significant education reform agenda. He also served as one of three Colorado commissioners on the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education (WICHE), an organization that he now chairs.
